Crosswind Runway Reconstruction Project: August Commercial Flight Pause

What You Need to Know

Hays Regional Airport (HYS) is committed to providing the safest and most reliable aviation facilities for our region. To uphold this commitment, we are undertaking a major reconstruction of our crosswind runway.

This project will require the closure of the crosswind runway for the duration of the project and the closure of the Airport’s primary runway from August 3 to August 23. During those 21 days in August, aircraft operations will be significantly limited and, SkyWest commercial air service will be temporarily suspended.

Why is this work necessary?

Aviation standards are constantly evolving. This construction project will bring our crosswind runway up to current Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations. By modernizing and upgrading the runway surfaces, pavement layouts, and safety areas, we are future-proofing our Airport. This guarantees that Hays Regional Airport will be ready to handle modern aircraft and serve the travel and economic needs of northwest Kansas for the foreseeable future.

Information for Passengers
