1929

January 1, 1929

In 1929, U.S. Airways made its first flight to the Hays Airport and landed on a gravel runway. The two level runway was 2,000 feet long and located on a pasture of the Fort Hays Experimental Station

1937

January 1, 1937

In 1937, the airport then developed a grassy land strip that was 4,000 foot by 150 foot.

1960

January 1, 1960

In the 1960s more land was purchased.  A paved runway, taxiway, and apron areas were constructed.

1969

January 1, 1969

In 1969, the FAA installed a VORTAC facility.

1988

January 1, 1988

In 1988, a new terminal building was constructed.

2001

January 1, 2001

In 2001, the primary runway 16-34 was expanded.

2003

January 1, 2003

In 2003, a crosswind runway 4-22 was constructed.

2016

March 23, 2016

Airport property includes a total of 43 hangars.
